rpwd act - part B: for education

With the goal of providing Full inclusion in education, RPWD act defines various relevant aspects as follows:

  • Admission without discrimination

  • Early detection of specific learning disabilities, Individualised Educational Plans (IEP), suitable pedagogical measures and reasonable accommodation

  • Monitor participation, progress in terms of attainment levels and completion of education in respect of every student with disability

  • Opportunities for sports and recreation activities equally with others

  • Education to blind or deaf students in the most appropriate modes and means of communication

  • Physical Accessibility: Buildings, Campus facilities, Transportation, Attendant if needed

It is well known that educational institutions in the USA and many parts of Europe are fully inclusive due to stringent law enforcement and awareness among parents, teachers & students.

While the government of India already has a sound law and policy in place for Inclusive education, actual implementation on the ground is far from satisfactory. There indeed are some shining examples of educational institutions in India that are ‘fully inclusive’. We intend to learn from these Indian and international educational institutes and develop models which could be used by others.
